Messing with their home Wi-Fi settings could be causing couples to lose their connection.
A TikTok snoop has shared a tech trick that can shed light on a partner’s internet usage and online interests — for better or worse — leaving amateur sleuths searching for answers.
Abby Paige, who posts about the trials and tribulations of relationships on the popular social media app, started the conversation with a short video captioned “When their phone is always hidden but they’re connected to your WiFi.”
The curiosity-piquing post pulled in over 500,000 views, many of them from curious types wanting to know exactly what Paige meant.
In a follow-up clip, Paige claimed that her Xfinity WiFi service can be set up to reveal the naked truth about what other users are up to on the network.
“I did this on accident, I didn’t even mean to do it,” she admits.
What Abby did, according to the company, was stumble on the “Manage People” feature of her Xfinity Wi-Fi app.
With this tool, individual profiles can be made for each user that will track their habits — to a degree.
Specifically, this is done through an “active time” feature which keeps tabs on when and for how long certain users were active for, up to a week prior.
The app can also show a person’s most used social programs, like Instagram or X.
But while the feature may show other red flags like frequent late-night usage, there is no actual way to track a person’s history through a router or modem — short of accessing someone’s computer, an Xfinity worker confirmed in a blog post.
“The only way to see your complete browsing history would be through the ‘History’ or ‘Security’ settings tab on the individual [internet] browsers used,” they wrote.
And even if the most you end up doing is messing with their minds, anyone with administrator-level capabilities can change settings in the Xfinity app to restrict users to specific times of the day or night.
When someone tries to access the internet while on “pause,” they will be out of luck.
