Better think twice before using ChatGPT to do your homework for you.
A student named Arjun was allegedly busted for using the artificial-intelligence technology on his schoolwork.
Walnut CEO Roshan Patel posted about the incident on Twitter June 1, along with a photo of the assignment.
“My little cousin Arjun got caught using ChatGPT on his 7th grade English homework,” he wrote.
The viral tweet has since racked up more than 1.2 million views and 4,755 likes.
In the image of the homework, the line, “As an AI language model, I don’t have personal expectations or opinions,” is highlighted in yellow.
It appears that Arjun had copied what the chatbot had said verbatim.
The word “poignant” was also highlighted — a word that is probably not in every preteen’s vocabulary.
People had plenty to say about the supposed cheating fail.
“If he made it to 7th grade and didn’t figure out to take that part of the response out, they [sic] system is failing our kids,” someone tweeted.
Another person wondered: “How could he write that sentence without even thinking about it?”
“That doesn’t look like the handwriting of a 7th grader at all,” a suspicious user wrote.
“Getting caught will definitely make Arjun smarter in the future,” one commenter wrote.
“7th grade should not be given access to use ChatGpt for completing homework,” someone scoffed.
While ChatGPT can be unreliable for doing homework, some people found success with it when it comes to applying for jobs.
