Elon Musk’s filmmaking baby sister said she has been overcharged by predators who “assumes my eldest brother pays for everything,” she told the Daily Mail.
“But he does not,” added Tosca Musk, the 48-year-old sibling of the world’s richest person.
Tosca, who works as a filmmaker and executive producer, said she recently got hit with a bill inflated by $20,000 while scouting locations for a new movie.
“The location was going to cost $5,000, but when they heard my name and assumed we were rich, they decided to charge us $25,000,” Tosca told The Mail.
“That’s not exactly fair, is it?” she queried while shaking her head, noting that people often falsely assume the Musks were born welathy.
“Ah, no,” Tosca said.
In fact, Elon Musk — the 51-year-old owner of Twitter and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX who’s worth $233 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index — is entirely self made.
When asked if Musk helps her out financially in any capacity, Tosca said “it’s a double-edged sword for me to say whether my brother has helped in any way.”
She continued: “If I say no, then people will say he does not support me at all and if I say yes, they’ll think he paid for everything.”
As for people looking to use her to get closer to her brother — which she says “happens all the time” — Tosca told The Mail that she has “a finely-tuned bullsh-t-ometer so I don’t let it get that far and the answer is always ‘no.’”
Tosca is the youngest of three Musk siblings. Her other brother, Kimbal, 50, is a chef and restauranteur.
The three were raised in South Africa by their mother, Maye.
Maye Musk, 75, detailed her experience as a single mother who fled an abusive marriage and struggled financially in her 2019 bestselling memoir, titled “A Woman Makes A Plan.”
Nonetheless, she raised three uber-successful children.
Tosca co-founded Passionflix in 2017. The streaming service is similar to Netflix, though only offers romance movies.
“Even though romance is the No. 1-selling genre in the world, we couldn’t get existing TV networks or studios interested in these stories at all. So, we just decided to create our own streaming platform instead,” Tosca told The Mail.
She has amassed a net worth of $170 million thanks to her business, and noted how her mother still tries to accompany Tosca to all of her and her brothers’ events.
Kimbal has made a name for himself in the culinary world for his food-centered ventures focused on finding a solution to America’s obesity.
He is also on the Tesla board of directors. He was an early investor in the carmaker and is worth about $700 million, though that amount is dwarfed by his brother’s reported multibillion-dollar fortune.
Tosca told The Mail that she and her brothers learned to have a strong work ethic from their mother, who had five jobs in 1979 to support her children — who where five, seven and eight at the time.
“There’s a perception that we had so much money growing up, but that is not the truth,” Tosca said. “After my parents divorced, my mum and brothers and I were together and we didn’t have any money.”
In her memoir, Maye described her marriage to her children’s father, Errol Musk, as physically abusive.
“While there were some really, really horrible times, I try not to focus on those because that doesn’t get you anywhere. I had an incredible mother who took care of me, and great brothers,” Tosca told The Mail.
Meanwhile, Errol has condemned his ex-wife’s claims of domestic abuse as “ridiculous, absurd and made up,” the outlet reported.
Maye now works as a model, and even graced the cover of Sports Illustrated Swim at age 74. She’s worth an estimated $45 million.
