Don’t be an airhead.
In a 49-second TikTok clip, Apple customer Caitlin Emiko, who goes by @caitlin.emiko on TikTok, unveiled an AirPods hack that many of her followers were surprised to learn.
Emiko revealed that the wireless headphones have a little-known voice isolation feature that filters out background noise when you are on a call — and her followers are calling it a “game changer.”
“I was on the phone to my ex-boyfriend the other night and he told me this life hack that I feel like the biggest idiot for not knowing for this long,” Emiko said in the viral clip with 6.4 million views.
The Australian native living in New York City discovered the hack on her AirPods Pro model, the only version with the audio feature.
Attempting to talk through the ambient sounds of the bustling city, Emiko’s ex asked, “It’s so noisy, why don’t you use like voice isolation?”
Emiko explained she never heard of the feature, captioning the clip posted on Nov. 20, “How did I NOT know this.”
“This whole time, I’ve just had them on general and I did voice isolation, it was crystal clear and only picked up my voice,” she said.
In the clip, the Aussie woman demonstrated how to use the tool, revealing sound options from standard voice isolation or wide spectrum, which leaves ambient noises unfiltered.
Apple describes the voice isolation feature for “when you want your voice to be even clearer during a FaceTime or phone call, turn on Voice Isolation, which prioritizes your voice and blocks ambient noises. When you want your voice and all the sounds around you to be heard during a FaceTime call, you can turn on Wide Spectrum to leave ambient noises unfiltered.”
Turn on Voice Isolation or Wide Spectrum
- During your call, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open Control Center.
- Tap Mic Mode.
- Select Voice Isolation or Wide Spectrum.
